ADHD Awareness Month: what TMS research does and does not show for ADHD

October is ADHD Awareness Month, and we get a steady stream of questions about TMS for ADHD. The short version: TMS is not FDA-cleared for ADHD. Research so far is early, mostly small trials stimulating the prefrontal cortex, with mixed results. Anyone offering TMS for ADHD is offering it off-label, usually self-pay. Where TMS does come up for people with ADHD is depression. If you have ADHD and major depression that hasn't responded to medication, TMS for the depression is a standard, cleared use. Clinics will ask about every medication you take, including stimulants, as part of screening. Our overview of the research: https://tmslist.com/blog/tms-for-adhd/ If you have ADHD and have had TMS for depression, what was the screening like? Did your clinic change anything about your medications? This is general information, not medical or insurance advice.
