BrainsWay presented positive results from the largest real-world study of Deep TMS in patients with comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder and major depressive disorder. Among 462 patients, 83.5% achieved a PTSD response — defined as at least a 50% reduction in symptoms — with an average 52% reduction in PCL-5 scores. Depression outcomes were strong as well, with a 66.6% response rate for major depressive disorder.
Comorbid PTSD and depression is common and notoriously difficult to treat, and the two conditions often reinforce one another. BrainsWay's Deep TMS is currently FDA-cleared for major depressive disorder, anxious depression, OCD, and smoking cessation — PTSD is not yet a cleared indication, so a real-world dataset of this size helps build the evidence base that could eventually support one.
The announcement landed in the same month the FDA cleared Wave Neuroscience's MeRT system for PTSD, underscoring PTSD as the industry's next frontier indication. BrainsWay filed the data with the SEC as a 6-K and it was covered by Psychiatric Times.
For clinics already offering Deep TMS for depression, the data supports the growing off-label and research use of the technology in trauma-related presentations, though coverage for a PTSD-specific indication does not yet exist outside cleared uses.
